February Update

Dear Members,

Yesterday my walk took me along the banks of Afon Morlais towards Llangennech village. I was delighted to spot many patches of snowdrops along the river banks, but stumped as to how they got there. If they are purely wild then why aren't there more elsewhere along the river? Perhaps there was once a house there or perhaps they were deliberately planted. Whatever the reason they look lovely, in a way that only wild flowers can. Talking of deliberately planting things, TWS joined forces with Llangennech Juniors Eco Council and children of 5C and Mrs Clarks class from Llangennech Infants School this week to plant 20 trees around the school grounds. A selection of native trees from Troserch Woods including, Oaks, Ash, Beech, Mountain Ash, Holly, Hawthorn and Birch were all given carefully chosen spots around the school. The children were hugely enthusiastic and set to the tasks of digging and shovelling with great energy. Many thanks to the children, Mr Anderson, Mrs Clark and Mrs Jones for their help. Photos were taken by a photographer from the Evening Post and Llanelli Star. We will be at Llangennech Community Center on Saturday 16th March for the Craft Fair. It's always nice to meet people face to face and chat about the woods so please pop in if you're passing. We will be selling locally produced items, woodland products, bean and pea sticks etc and making Easter dcorations to raise money for the Woods. On Saturday 9th March we will be conducting a woodland inspection to check for hazards in the woods needing repair. All welcome. Meet at 9.30 in the main car park. Bring Suitable clothing and refreshments. No tools needed Best Wishes Jan Secretary
